The Handstand Story of Christine Shaw:
“I first decided to learn to do a handstand in 2009 when my daughter was taking gymnastics and I saw all of these young kids easily getting up and holding handstands. It looked fun, energizing and awesome to be able to hold yourself upside down.
I searched the internet to learn how to handstand and found Sadie Nardini- yoga teacher. She was giving lots of great tips to get into handstands and so my journey began. I started practicing handstands in the house against the walls and in the garage and on trees and any surface I could find. I got better and better but had trouble (fear) whenever I tried to move off the wall. I got better from 2009 to 2015—6 YEARS but still did not get off the wall! Then I heard a handstand teacher say that if you have all of the elements of handstands but are still using the wall then you are NOT doing a handstand! Yikes! I immediately started doing all of my practice off the wall and now I am able to hold a handstand off the wall.
My Next step?? Hold it for longer than 15 seconds! Come and join me for the journey as we all work to learn to handstand and take it off the wall!” UPDATE: I am currently holding handstands Off the Wall for longer than 15 seconds and so ARE the students who come to Off the Wall classes! Improvements are made every time we meet! WE vary the themes and exercises and drills. It is a great and fun Journey! Come and Join us!

Each week we will focus on the elements you need to get up and hold a strong handstand off the wall!
HANDSTANDS. TAKE. TIME.
Be confident! When you practice with others and get helpful tips and spotting you will get there much faster. You will find your proper form and alignment, gain confidence and embrace any fear that is holding you back. Everyone’s journey to handstands are different so take it at your own pace. You gotta start somewhere and this is a great place to learn and practice your new skills!
Here is an idea of what to expect during this class:
Warm ups – wrist, shoulders, core, back. A flow vinyasa style class adding elements of handstand prep work
Alignment principles– hands, head, elbows, shoulder, hips, back, legs, feet
Core work– hollow body, Planks, Down dog slides, and much more
Arm strength and alignment – A necessity for great handstands
Better control – slow and steady for consistent handstands
Breath work – An important element in getting up and holding
Methods & Process – The Tuck, The “L”, The Wall, The towel, The Squeeze, The split, The Straddle
Embrace your fear – Learn the “Exit” to come down safely. Work towards handstands off the wall!
